Festive events and thematic exhibitions took place in the Hermitage Museum in the jubilee year of the 200th anniversary of the victory in the Patriotic War of 1812. The celebration program was opened on August 1, at the day of the first victory of the Russian arms over the Napoleon’s army at the battle of Klyastitsy.Dates of all major battles of the Patriotic War of 1812 were marked by the exhibition of Peter von Hess paintings from a series of paintings created by him for the most important battles of the military campaign against Napoleonic France.
In honor of the memorable dates the grand ceremonies took place.
The closing of celebrations took place on December, 25. The guards of honor trooped the colours and standards of the Russian army regiments which participated in the battles of 1812 military campaign. In the Field-Marshal’s Hall the thanksgiving service was hold. The Admiralty Orchestra of the Leningrad Naval Base performed the military marches of that era. That was the day when three exhibitions were opened: the large-scaled exhibitions “The Storm of the Twelfth Year...” the Patriotic War of 1812 in the artefacts of the State Hermitage” and the exhibitions “The Patriotic War of 1812 in medals of A.N. Olenin and his contemporaries” and “Toy soldiers in the Hermitage Museum. For the 200th anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812.”
